01 / The idea

A note and a ticket, one groove

The name carries a kingdom. Kush was the Nile-valley civilization that met the world on its own terms. Tunes is what we move today.

Our mark, the Groove, holds the whole business in one image: an eighth note for your music and a punched ticket stub for your show, carried inside an open circle that reads as a record's groove, a spotlight's ring, and the world the music travels. Distribution and ticketing, together, in motion.

Brand descriptors: direct · premium · trustworthy · electric · proudly East African.

03 / Usage

Don't

×
No gradients or effects on the mark
×
Never rotate or tilt
×
Never stretch or squash
×
No colors outside the approved set
×
Never lime-on-lime (or lime text on white)
×
Nothing enters the clear-space zone

Always

  • Use the supplied files, never rebuild the logo
  • Dark version on Void Black or photography darker than 40%
  • Light version on white and Paper surfaces
  • Mono white over busy imagery, inside a scrim if needed
  • Scale uniformly; keep the clear-space zone empty

Never

  • Recolor, add gradients, shadows, outlines or glows
  • Rotate, skew, mirror, crop or animate beyond the approved rise
  • Set the wordmark in another typeface or re-space it
  • Place lime on white for text, or lime on lime
  • Create new lockups or containers that crowd the mark

04 / Color

Lime is a spotlight, not a floodlight

Dark mode is the brand's home, the night the music happens in. Kush Lime should cover well under 10% of any composition. Lime text only on dark, 18px+; on white use Lime Forest. Never place Ember beside Kush Lime. Click to copy.

06 / Iconography & shape

Drawn on the same stone

24×24 grid, 2.25 stroke, round caps, so terminals echo the pill radii. One color per set. The brand's atomic shape is the rounded bar: use it for dividers, progress, charts and rhythm. Radii: cards 20, inputs 14, buttons full-pill. Grid: 12 columns on an 8px baseline; section spacing 96/128.

07 / Imagery

Real artists, real light

Photography

East African cities at night: studios in Nairobi, stages in Kampala, rooftops in Juba. Hard directional stage light, lime gels welcome, deep shadows, honest grain, rich true skin tones. Never sterile stock, never acacia-sunset clichés. Photography behind type takes a bottom-up black scrim at 60-80%.

Illustration & backgrounds

Flat vector geometry built from the brand's shapes, bars, circles, pills and arcs, with one accent per piece. Grounds live at the extremes: Void Black or white, never mid-grey. Dark glass cards (rgba 18,18,18 ·.7 + lime-glow border) are reserved for stat callouts and overlays.

08 / Motion

The rise

Everything enters from below and settles with confidence, like a stylus dropping into a groove. 250ms, cubic-bezier(0.4, 0, 0.2, 1), no bounce. Logo intro: light fills the mark from the ground up (550ms), then one soft pulse. Reverse for outros. Micro-interactions 150ms, transitions 350ms, always respect prefers-reduced-motion.

09 / Voice

Straight answers. No fine print.

Principles

  • Short declaratives. One idea per sentence.
  • Second person, present tense. You upload. We deliver.
  • Numbers before adjectives. Say "48 hours", never "blazingly fast".
  • Zero jargon. If an artist in Juba wouldn't say it, we don't write it.
  • We say artists and fans, never "users" or "content creators".

By context

  • Product: "Release live. 34 stores."
  • Marketing: "DROP A TRACK ON FRIDAY. STREAMING WORLDWIDE BY MONDAY."
  • Support: "Your payout left our side today, M-Pesa usually clears within an hour."
  • Press: "KushTunes distributes to 30+ platforms in 180+ countries."
